    Hi,

Looking at the images you have a painted version of the Black Ship in Grey, I love this paint job. Do you have a tutorial on how this was painted? (I see there are other models painted in this way too)

    Thanks,

    • Sam Campbell (verified owner)

I will post a full tutorial in the new year. The ship was primed in black and drybrushed in dungeon grey. The Metallics were layered with GW Typhus Corruption, drybrushed with GW Ryza rust, washed in Army Painter Sepia Wash and highlighted with Army Painter Gun Metal. The roof tiles were painted in Army Painter Alien Purple, washed in Army Painter Purple Tone and black, and highlighted with Army Painter Oozing Purple.

    Perfect, thanks Sam!

Is this the same length as the Galleon?

    • Sam Campbell (verified owner)

The Black Ship is much shorter. The Galleon is the longest ship by far.

I’m printing the main body now but was wondering if there is a guide on which rigging peices I need?… I checked the references in the Imperial folder but they seem like different sizes. Do I print them all?

    • Sam Campbell (verified owner)

The reference is in metric sizes, you will need to print the equivalent in imperial.

Hi there, I pringed this out with your suggested stats here, the stern top came out great, but the midsection came out pretty brittle, its salvageable but it feels like the insides are just ready to crunch inward, any ideas on why this might have happened?

    • Sam Campbell (verified owner)

Usually with brittleness you may need to look at anything that will effect your extrusion. A partial clog, loose belt tension and even temperature will cause brittleness.

  6. a_toppins774 (verified owner)

Hi there again. One final question here, did you guys just glue the rigging pieces on of did you have a special way to keep them in place. Sounds silly to ask but I want to do this right.

    • Sam Campbell (verified owner)

      We just used glue.

Roughly how long does a ship this size take to print at 0.2?

    • Nicholas Jebson

      Hey Philc
Roughly it takes 7 days or so to print a ship that size at 0.2, though some printers are faster and some are slower.

  8. khanage103

Roughly how much filament will be needed to print this at 32mm scale? Cheers

    • Sam Campbell (verified owner)

We’ve only printed it at 28mm and it was about a kilogram. Depends on your slicer and your infill for 32mm scale but it will increase exponentially so it may be a a few hundred grams difference.

Is this comment the colors used in the majority of these picture? I believe that it is but I want to make sure before I purchase the actual colors:

“The Metallics were layered with GW Typhus Corruption, drybrushed with GW Ryza rust, washed in Army Painter Sepia Wash and highlighted with Army Painter Gun Metal. The roof tiles were painted in Army Painter Alien Purple, washed in Army Painter Purple Tone and black, and highlighted with Army Painter Oozing Purple.”

    • Nicholas Jebson

That is correct. It is the paints used to do all the metallic and sections and roof tiles. pretty much was heavy on the typhus corrosion and light with the ryza rust, with a light drybrush of the gunmetal at the end. The roof tiles are pretty straight forward.

Does this ship come in a size that could be printed on an Anycubic photon or is this designed to be printed on the more commonly larger FLM printers?

    • Nicholas Jebson

It was made to go on larger FDM printers. There is a small printer cut version though it is still slightly larger than the anycubic’s volume, though I think you can fit it on vertically if you shrink it by 10%

  11. Jason Pfirman

just a quick question, I have a resin printer, elegoo mars 2 pro, has anyone ever printed these ships with a resin printer or is it strictly a filament print job?

    • Mike

      Hi Jason!

In the download are small printer cuts that should fit on your printer. We have had a couple of customers print the Black Ship in resin, the details really shine!

what diameter dowel do we need

    • Mike (Printable Scenery)

      Hi Alejandro,

You’ll want 6mm and 4mm dowel for this ship

  13. andy.dyer (verified owner)

Is it possible for you to add the dowel diameters to the rigging diagram so that we know which size fits where please? Maybe a list of diameters and lengths required? Just printing the last part of my wake then the rigging parts are next 🙂
    Thank you!

    • Jo Boorer (verified owner)

You will need a 6mm (1/4 inch) and 4mm (3/16 inch) dowel for the masts and black elastic string for the rope. You may need to sand the ends of the dowel to insert it into the mast holes easily.

  14. andy.dyer (verified owner)

Thanks Jo, I was really looking for which diameter is used on which mast which I couldn’t seem to find, worked it all out now and just primed with black 🙂 Thanks for the reply
