(1 customer review)

The Walkways can be printed without supports and are able to be rescaled to suit a wide variety of scenarios.  The platforms are designed to clip into the posts. When rescaling make sure you rescale the width of the platform, to the exact same % to the width of the posts.

This product is delivered as a .ZIP file pack containing 3d printer files (STL files) for use on a home 3D Printer.

Description

Rickety wooden walkways link waterside dwellings to one another, while also providing an excellent spot to fish from.

Notes:

  • The Planks are set to:
    Planks 50 short 100mm x 50mm.
    Planks 50 medium 200mm x 50mm.
    Planks 50 long 300mm x 50mm.
    Planks 100 short 100mm x 100mm.
    Planks 100 medium 200mm x 100mm.
    Planks 100 long 300mm x 100mm.
  • The planks that are 300 long are only for use when scaling down so that you don’t end up with a very short plank.
  • For example. If you want to make a 25 x 150 walkway then you could scale down 50%.

  • mm is the height based on the measurement from the bottom of the feet to the eye height of the average human
  • Height is not the same as Base Size (A 28mm miniature will often have a 25mm round base)

1 question for The Walkways

  1. Michael Potter (verified owner)

Can you explain what the 50 and 100 means? Are they two sets of scaled walkways that should only be used with ones with the same number or used interchangeably?

    • Matthew Barker

The 50 and 100 refers to the approximate width of the walkway

Also, what is the target printer for these files? I have a 200 x 200 x 185 build plate which is reasonably sizable and many of the 50 and 100 planks do not fit on the build plate. Are we expected to use some modeling software and chop them up? 100 medium and 50 long and medium do not fit.

    • Matthew Barker

Some of them have been made double length so that you can scale them down. For example, the 300x50mm can be downsized to 150mmx25mm

I thought it was easier to make them all the same relative size and allow the user to rescale. I could make a video on this if you think It needs to be clearer.

All I get is a set of .stl files. 28 mm is the standard for most RPG these days, so I am interesting in models with that scale. I can use my printers well, including doing basic maintenance. I do not know modeling software, just cura.

200 x 200 x 185 is reasonably common for a build plate, so I would like instructions on how to print to 28 mm scale using the files included and getting them to fit on my printer bed. I was able to print the really large frigate pieces no issue, but the models here are just too big.

    • Matthew Barker

      The Planks are set to:
      Planks 50 short 100mm x 50mm
      Planks 50 medium 200mm x 50mm
      Planks 50 long 300mm x 50mm
      Planks 100 short 100mm x 100mm
      Planks 100 medium 200mm x 100mm
      Planks 100 long 300mm x 100mm

The planks that are 300 long are only for use when scaling down so that you don’t end up with a very short plank.

For example. If you want to make a 25 x 150 walkway then you could scale down 50%

So then I need to find a series of conversions to get 50 mm wide (10′ in standard D&D scale) and scale the supports exactly the same? Your 25 x 150 walkway is 5′ x 30′. I actually have to very slightly tweak the 200MM planks to less than 200MM as cura does not seem to go to the absolute edge for a printer.

    • Matthew Barker

The 50mm wide versions are already there and they fit the 50 posts.
If you want to print the 50 x 200 on the Prusa, you could squash it slightly by turning off the lock and just scaling a single axis, keep the other two axies the same and they will fit exactly… I’ll make a video tomorrow to show how you can do this.

These are nicely detailed wooden walkways. It would be nice to have some ramps to transition from the ground to the low height or from the low height to the high height. The only way to transition from one walkway to another is by overlapping walkways as seen in the pics. There are no T sections or connecting pieces. Ok value for the price.
