Creating Debris for Scenery

Adding extra debris is a great way to enhance your 3D printed ruin model. You can achieve different effects with painting methods to make the models come to life, but you can also go further with some physical effects using sand, a few small stones and your 3D printer off-cuts. Finally, you can put all the scraps from your other printed models to use

Creating Debris

You will need: superglue, PVA glue, dry course sand, 3D Printed offcuts, small stones, small side cutters, A spray-can black matt primer, Grey matt acrylic paint, Talcum powder.

Once you have assembled your 3D printed model building you are ready to apply the extra debris. Bend and crease the plastic off cuts so they form into shapes that look like sheet metal or broken pipes. You can see I’ve even used strips of filament as wires or pipes. Use superglue to attach all the large pieces of debris.

Once that has dried use PVA to cover the remaining areas and sprinkle with your smaller debris, small stones and sand.

Once this is done spray the entire model with Matt black spray primer and dry brush with grey and then again with white highlights. You can use talcum powder to sprinkle on as ash.
