Creating Magnetic Dungeon Tiles with OpenLOCK

This article will show you how to use the OpenLOCK Magnetic Clip to build fully interchangeable dungeons with magnets. Once you’ve built a collection of these magnetic clips, you can swap and change dungeon layouts in no time.

The Magnetic Clip is an OpenLOCK adapter option. It is interchangeable with other OpenLOCK clips but is cut in half with two holes for magnets. The two holes are designed to use 3mm x 4mm barrel magnets (1/8” x 1/8” will work too). This product is compatible with all OpenLOCK tiles.

Magnetic clip tutorial components

For this, you’ll need:

-Superglue
OpenLOCK magnetic clips
OpenLOCK dungeon tiles
-Small 3mm hobby drill
-3mm diameter by 4mm long magnets

First, drill out the holes to clean them up, removing any bits leftover from printing. Then, place some super glue on the magnet and insert it into the hole. Make sure to insert the two magnets in opposite directions.

Use a pair of pliers to press them into the hole flush with the top of the clip and leave them to dry. To check the polarity is consistent with the first one you make, test each one to see if it sticks to the original as you go. Then, do this to all your clips.

It’s easier to have the magnets stick together and place the dungeon tile on from that point to help make sure the polarity works. If you find they aren’t lining up, it might mean a clip needs to be flipped upside down. Crowbar it out with a flathead screwdriver and flip it, which should solve the problem.
