Description
King Godrik stood as his serfs equipped his armour, his face like a stone carving. His Keep shook with each distant boulder blow, dust trembling from the ceiling. His Kingdom was under siege, and these invaders threatened his throne. But Godrik wouldn’t let them take it, not without a fight. He placed his crown on the bench in his chamber and put his helmet on in its place. Finally, he drew his sword, Lion’s Claw, and strode out to the battlement. There he stood, high above his Kingdom, to gaze upon these would-be usurpers. This was now a time for war.

My first build from the T&A set and getting a little confused about the construction. This model could benefit from a little guidance or instruction. I’m assuming we just use multiple Level 2 pieces for the Keep Towers to give them the required height? How many of each part needs to be printed? Also a little unclear about how the windlass parts go together. The diagram shows the layout, but there are no reference images to this in the gallery. Other than that, what an amazing castle keep.
Joanne Boorer (verified owner) –
Hi Jeremy, Thanks for reaching out. We will put up a video of how these all go together.
Benjamin Willis (verified owner) –
100% agree with the user above. A listing of components and qty needed to print to achieve the model in the pictures would be a massive benefit. More than a little confusing on the windlass as well. The color pictures are great but trying to figure out which pieces are challenging even for an experienced modeler, let alone a beginner.

I know this is such a minor gripe, but would it be possible to have variant of the level 2 section with a wooden floor like in the level 3 section? Those would be great for towers that are 4+ levels high and could also differentiate the tower in this set further from the standalone tower.
Joanne Boorer (verified owner) –
Thanks for your great suggestion. I will added this to our request list.

I printed the hex keep tower Lvls 1-3. The pegs do not fit into the holes for the level above. They line up fine, but it’s like the pegs are too big. The point goes in, but not the square part, leaving like an 1/8″ space between levels. That’s not supposed to be there, is it?
Matt Barker –
It sounds like your getting some ‘Elephants Foot’ which when the first layers are extra fat. If you could send a picture to [email protected] we can have a look. Or, you could check the slicer and see if your printed model looks like its supposed to in your slicer.
toddshryock (verified owner) –
Figured it out – the tolerances on the pegs/holes are pretty tight. When I pushed harder, they snapped into place. The drawback is because I’m scaling down to 60%, I broke a couple of the pegs. My solution is to ream out the holes just a bit with a 5/32 drill bit so they aren’t so tight.
But I would like to add my vote to the others above asking for more detailed instructions on how to assemble this! Excited to see what everything looks like once I finish printing and assembling.
Matt Barker –
Thanks Todd, you could be right. I’ll will do some more tests and get some feedback from the community, and update the models before i build out the whole range
toddshryock (verified owner) –
I printed out the conical roof and it drops over the pegs just fine – not tight at all. Does the roof have slightly larger peg openings than the tower sections?
DeathThorn (verified owner) –
Yes , I also start building this model , and badly need some instruction and parts quantity 🙂
Bill Robertson (verified owner) –
OMGA! Absolutely Fabulous! Pure joy! (I would have rated it 6 stars out of 5)
Yes, i too would appreciate a more detailed blow-up of the Keep assembly.
Just printing the third of many (15?) tower pieces for the King’s Keep, but can’t make out how characters would enter and move around the ground level of the keep except by hatches – perhaps i’ve missed something.
1. None of the basement tower hexes in the photos seem to open up to the ground floor of the keep. (Or possibly into the main castle grounds or even externally as a Postern gate) Perhaps you could offer a [Hex-Tower-Keep-Lv1-Basement] option with one opening for a [… Plug-Doorframe]? Or a new [… Plug -hexconnector] that could be used to convert a Lv2 tower to some combination of doors/windows and hex connectors?
2. Found a [Hex-Tower-Staircase] but would also like to see ladders or a VERY steep stone stair to free up space in the hex. (or have i missed these?).
Sorry to be so bratty, but it’s your fault – you’ve totally spoiled me.
Joanne Boorer (verified owner) –
Thanks for your feedback. I will add these to our suggestion list.
toddshryock (verified owner) –
It would also be helpful to have a wall plug with an arrow slit in it that way you don’t have to use the bay window for everything. Maybe one with a regular slit and one with the crossbow slit?
erich.schreiner (verified owner) –
I agree with Bill above – 6 out of 5 stars, but a variant of the level 1 pieces with pluggable connectors resp. doors etc. would be awesome!
erich.schreiner (verified owner) –
@toddshryock: the “simple” arrow slit plug is part of the square bastion that in turn comes with the barracks set.
Berkzerk (verified owner) –
I have a possible suggestion idea. Could you make different topper pieces to fit in the flag spot? So instead of it being a flag like have a point or something instead?
Joanne Boorer (verified owner) –
Thanks for your great suggestion. It is on the to do list.
toddshryock (verified owner) –
@erich- Thanks for pointing that out, appreciated. I will change my request then to a ramp that leads up to the gate instead of stairs.
Joanne Boorer (verified owner) –
Thanks for your suggestion. I will pass this on to the team.
DeathThorn (verified owner) –
In my opinion and suggestion :
Hex-Kings-Keep-Lv2-v1.3 and Hex-Kings-Keep-Lv3-v1.1 should have pins or some holes for pins to straight connect wall in proper position
this 2 pieces are really large and have thin high wall so better made pins in proper places or some 1,75mm holes for filament pins to good connect and position those 2 levels
ofc’ You can glue them together, but what is point ??
Matt Barker –
I can put some top locking pins on that but its held in place by the hex towers. I was worried that adding licking pins would make it too finicky to attach
Matt Barker –
I can also add ‘Square layout adapter to the Hex towers as an update or stretch goal
billykurtz (verified owner) –
LOVE Castle King’s Keep! My favorite model so far! But it’s kind of difficult to figure out how to get it all assembled and what you need exactly. But well, well, worth it!

DeathThorn (verified owner) –
and one question
we have “windlass” system to move gate up and down on one beam
but second one i think is ready to drawbiridge???
but no those elements in HEX System for now 🙂
Matt Barker –
Yes you are correct, we have plans for a drawbridge as part of the ‘bridges’ stretch goal
DeathThorn (verified owner) –
Matt
Can You add to this set other version of Hex-Tower-Plug-DoorFrame-Stone-v1.5 from Keep Tower without this space and hole for door mount 🙂
so can we use only plug for stone arch 🙂 only frame without doors
really missed that option for my perfect look 🙂
Joanne Boorer (verified owner) –
Great minds think alike. This is already on our list to do.
Landhund (verified owner) –
I’ve finally printed and assembled everything and it is just amazing! It already looks great and I haven’t even started painting it yet!
Just one tiny issue: the small bell keeps falling out of its grooves and down the chimney when handling the keep. Would it be possible to make the grooves a bit deeper and the bells bar a bit longer so it has a more secure fit? It’s really not a big deal, if needed I could always just add a bit of glue, but it may help future prints.
Joanne Boorer (verified owner) –
Thanks for your suggestion. I will add it to the updates list.
entreaken (verified owner) –
I’m printing this out now (King’s Keep), and there are some parts that are pre-supported for a resin printer which is great! However, some of the parts could benefit from a pre-supported file. For example, the corbels, bell, flags, etc. have files for a resin printer setup. However, the ladders and portcullis (for all sets in the campaign), aren’t pre-supported. Having additional resin supported files for those parts would be perfect. Thanks!
Joanne Boorer (verified owner) –
Thanks for pointing this out. I will get this added to the zip file.
Tim Wharton (verified owner) –
How about them assembly instructions? Still cant fingure this thing out! 🙂

The whole HEX series is great! Love the update with the “slide plug”, one of the first things I did was make myself the exact same plug when I bought the models! Really opens up building opportunities. Glad it now has an official model. Can’t wait for all future models to come out!
Joanne Boorer (verified owner) –
Thanks for your great feedback.
Erich (verified owner) –
Hi Matt & team,
thank you for the latest update and the great work on all those models.
I do have one crazy idea after seeing the “whole level” variant of the Queen’s Quarters level 1: could you maybe remove the two central “B” connectors (where two of those hex towers are connected at three sides) from the King’s Keep’s level one piece?
If you combine this potential variant with the new, “open” Hex Tower’s level 1 piece, the basement could be much more accessible…
And I would like to have those connector pins to Keep the central part of the Keep properly aligned like with the new Queen’s Quarter’s core (pun intended 😉
Thank you for taking this into consideration & best regards,
Erich
Joanne Boorer (verified owner) –
This idea is currently being worked on by one of our modelers.
Will Spargur (verified owner) –
I agree with Erich above. There seems to be no access to the main basement level other than the tower basements. Even with the new plug option for level one, the buttress connectors block any door that I could put there. Would it be possible to remove the middle buttress on the level one basement piece?
Joanne Boorer (verified owner) –
This idea is currently being worked on by one of our modelers.
d_whitwell (verified owner) –
Agree with Erich and Will, having built it all now would be great to have an option with the two central B connectors removed to enable access to the tower basements from within the keep.
Joanne Boorer (verified owner) –
This option is currently being made.
DeathThorn (verified owner) –
and what about stand alone frame plug without doors hinges ???
Joanne Boorer (verified owner) –
We have included an Arch plug in the Queens Quarters.
ajk5132 (verified owner) –
Hey all this is amazing. As I’m printing and customizing, I am really confused about the wooden trustle piece adaptor for the hex keep tower battlement. I printed it and am genuinely unsure how to use it as a I also printed the battlement and it fits fine on the normal 3rd floor pieces
Joanne Boorer (verified owner) –
The Wooden Trustle was added for those who would like to use the Roof over the Battlement.
breandan (verified owner) –
Okay, after headdesking when I saw it as it means I have to re-print the basement level of the keep, I want to heartily thank you for the updated single piece 1st floor layer (Hex-Kings-Keep-Complete-Lv1-v1.2 specifically) that turns it all into open space with support columns. That is precisely what I needed for this model, and it’s well worth the time to print the new version up and replace the old one.
