How to build Castle Agnes using HEX template pieces
With the release of the Queen’s Quarters, we thought we’d show how to build a castle called Castle Agnes using the model and some of the other new models from this week. This one’s a bit more of a complex build and uses a wide variety of models from Throne & Ash. To show you how to build Castle Agnes, we’ve included a graphic top-down of the parts used to make it easier to understand how the HEX template works. At the end of the article, we’ve included all the templates you need to mock up your layouts.

To build Castle Agnes, you’ll need the following:
- Gatehouse and connectors
- 2 Square bastions and connectors
- 2 Oval bastions 120
- 1 Keep Tower and connectors
- 1 Wattle & Daub Tower and connectors
- 1 Queens Quarters (Hex tower and square tower included) and connectors
- 1 Wall turret 180
- 1 Bowmans Battlement 180
- 1 Bowmans battlement 120
- 2 Walls 180
- 3 Walls 120
- 1 Steps 120
Building Castle Agnes should be pretty straightforward from there, and starting with a top-down layout really helps. We also recommend trying a “dry fit” first, laying the pieces out and arranging them, but not connecting them. It helps get a clear picture of what you’re building. And to help even more, here are all the templates to build your own castles as PNGs so you can use them in something like Photoshop or print them and cut them out.

That covers all the SystemHEX footprints, and all models share these. You can use the walls for example in blace of the new Bowmans Battlements as they use the same footprint. Hope these help, and have fun building your own castles with Throne & Ash!
But where are PNG files?
with HEXes ??
You’ll just need to save the images off the site, cheers
Are there copies of the images for each piece with the grey hex background?
this would be easier to play around with I think?
We’ll work on adding this as well, cheers
That is SO cool! Well done, and thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks, glad you like it!
I’d love to see a more straight version of this / PNG for straight walls. Hexagonal castles were common, but with straight walls not curved ones (historically). 😀 Looking cool!
Great idea, we’ll add that in for one of the next ones, cheers!
Love it! So much fun. Thanks
No problem, cheers
Awesome! Thanks for the images.
No problem, glad it helps
