Are these figures based on a historical period?

Here is the answer from the designer Johnny Fraser-Allen:
Great Question, the answer is that they are an amalgamation of a few different armies and eras as I was interested in creating a unique feeling army for peoples gaming experiences. Matt and I both play D&D, Warhammer fantasy and Mordheim so were interested in an ‘Empire’ compatible army. Mainly the inspiration derives from Germanic, Russian and a hint of Spanish armoring and costume shape languages.
