Question on Buildings with multiple floors

I am currently building the tavern, which is my first build. I’m trying to figure out if there is a way to secure the 2nd floor to the 1st floor. I see a hole on the top of the fireplace piece but inserting a clip doesn’t seem to fit snugly to the bottom of the next piece.

I feel like there is a simple explanation but I can’t figure it out. Are there any other recommendations for securing multilevel floorplans and roofs?
