Newb OpenLock question

I looked around the site before posting this. I apologize if I overlooked an existing answer source.

I’ve been printing Port WInterdale towers and walls since purchasing the models. I also printed a number of the 5.4 version openlock clips. My issue is the clips don’t work to connect the pieces together by the base connection bay. Even if I force the forks into the hole the rectangular middle produces an unavoidable gap between pieces. Do I need another clip file? What am I doing wrong?
