1 inch tiles for the ship decks?

Is there a way of adding 1 inch squares to the decks of the ships, nothing drastic to take away from the detail of the decking but subtle enough to identify that they are there?
I know that there is a ship release coming soon for D&D from Wizards, “Long walk, short plank” that they’ve teased and I think it would add to the usability and attraction for various players to have those grids on the decks for movement and distance.

And if you really want to get fancy, finding a way of using openlock to separate the decks so they can be used for ship to ship combat would also be pretty snazzy.
