Dhow Rigging
You will need 6mm (1/4 inch) and 4mm (3/16 inch) dowel for the masts and black elastic string for the rope. You may need to sand the ends of the dowel to go into the mast holes easily.

Is there a guide for how you did the rigging with the angled masts on the Dhow? It seems very different then the sloop that the video guide is for.

There is no specific guide for rigging the dhow, just a general guide. For the Dhow rigging, the lateen is tied off from the base of the mast to the front part of the cross mast and the block and tackle pieces are loop tied around the top of the cross masts.

The largest section of the Dhow small printer cuts is 96(L)x 80.54(W)x 118(T). You would be able to print it by resizing it to 99% of the original size, which will not detract at all from its overall look. At most you would need to do a tiny bit of sanding at the base of the mast dowels to make them fit into the slightly smaller attachment points.

I love this model – printed it out on my Ultimaker S3 as a single ship – been using it for a recent sea-faring DnD Adventure….loads of fun. Which got me to wondering, is there anyway to turn the .stl into a .obj file for Table Top Simulator? I tried meshmixer but I can’t get the vertices low enough (without losing all of the detail) – any chance you guys would make/sell files for Table Top Simulator – like Hero Forge has started doing for Characters?

Glad you like the ship! We can look at obj file conversion so that models can be used for TTS. As you identified it might depend on the number of vertices but it is a good idea!

Mike – thanks for the reply – let me know if you guys can create obj files – I know Terrain Tinker is looking at doing this (with color included – which is awesome) – be great for building and importing dungeons and taverns and such – any idea if Terrain Tinker will do the boats?

The Steering Wheel doesnt have a fixed place so you can choose. If it were me I’d put in towards the stern behind the rear most mast

I can guess the position of almost all the pieces except for the Dhow-Rig-A-v1.0. I have no idea where that piece goes.
And why are there so many rigging pieces when the images shows that you need only three (with two copies of 1). Here as well, I don’t understand the differences between the pieces. It seems that the piece Rig-7-I has a difference in length between the A and the B pieces but that’s about all the differences that I can see.
And the Dhow-rig-I-2 has a straight elliptical hole. I’m confused to say the least.
A text description of those pieces (that does create translation problems I know) or a graph would do wonders to figure out what the pieces are. I feel like someone who wonders if he did something wrong when the build is finished but there are still screws left in the bag.

hello, what sized dowels are used for the masts?

The aft mast step has an interior diameter of 5mm and the forward mast step has an interior diameter of 4mm. You could use 4mm for both and pack out the aft mast stop with glue
